Halton Disability Partnership

Charity description

Halton Disability Partnership is a local charity set up to support people with disabilities or long term conditions in Halton and in the surrounding areas. Halton is a unitary authority of around 120,000 people primarily comprising the Merseyside towns of Widnes and Runcorn.
A recent Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) produced by Halton and St Helens PCT suggests that the number of adults living with 'a long term limiting illness' is 22% compared with a national average of 18%.

Halton Disability Partnership developed from an earlier informal coalition of disabled organisations called Halton Disability Alliance which was established in 2005. By late 2009 the organisation had changed its name to Halton Disability Partnership and was taking steps towards becoming a charitable company. In November 2009 a consultant (Gary Kitchen) was commissioned by Halton Borough Council to work with the Partnership to support its development. In March 2010, a Consultation Meeting with relevant organisations reaffirmed the need for the Partnership to develop to better meet the needs of disabled people in the borough. New trustees were recruited and a Memorandum and Articles of Association was signed on 2nd July 2010. In April 2011, a part time Co-ordinator(David Atkinson) was recruited and funding secured through the Big Lottery to run the Halton Disability Forum.
