Grampian Child Bereavement Network

Charity description

Grampian Child Bereavement Network logo
Thank you for visiting our profile page on MyDonate. GCBN's aims are to provide direct support to bereaved children and young people and their families throughout the Grampian Region. The services we offer include a responder service whereby our trained volunteers undertake home visits and provide direct work with children where appropriate. We also run free to attend Activity days throughout the year at venues across the Grampian Region. The aim of these days is to bring children together to feel less isolated and to have fun while also building their confidence and resilience. Their parents/carers also attend and become part of the network, they also gain support from the charity and others who are in a similar position. GCBN also provide a free book gifting service where we send age and stage appropriate books to families to help them explain and talk about death with children. We provide free training to professional working in schools and other groups to build capacity, confidence and skills in order that they are able to offer appropriate support to children. We also provide free consultation to professionals who are already working with children.

The Charity was formed in 2009 when a group of professional recognised that there was a gap in services for bereaved children and young people and that they required a service where their needs are acknowledged and they should have access to appropriate support. GCBN became a registered charity in August 2009 and is managed by a board of trustees. The trustees come from a range of backgrounds, many hold professional qualifications and have many years experience in direct work with children and families. The charity has developed clear policies and procedures which underpin all of the charities activities and ensures safe practices. GCBN believe that if bereaved children and young people receive appropriate support they will go on to lead flourishing lives. There is research where it is evidenced that if children do not receive such support they can go on to experience difficulties with their mental health and education. Many of the children we support have lost a parent, often in very traumatic circumstances so we do know that early intervention provides them with resources to assist them manage their loss. Please donate to support our cause.
