Charity description

Govan Schools Pipes and Drums Association logo
The Govan Schools Pipes & Drums Association has been operating since 2014 giving bagpipe and drum tuition to pupils in an area recognised by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation as one of significant deprivation.
It has been proven that Pipe bands give young people skills for life; they promote teamwork, commitment, self-esteem, a sense of discipline and dress, fun and friendship and can even lead to employment opportunities. Pipe bands are also a source of pride and focus for schools and communities. In the longer term, communities are stronger because community bands need new members to survive and to flourish.

6 sets of bagpipes plus 6 snare drums, two tenor drums and a bass drum together with cases, harnesses, slings, drum sticks and mallets equates to approximately £12,000. Tuition equates to approximately £20,000 per annum.
On top of this, further costs include practice chanters, reeds, practice drum pads, public liability insurance, bookkeeping/audit support, rental of halls for band practice, transport to competitions and miscellaneous ancillary items together with ongoing investment in the instruments leads to an estimated operating cost of £35,000 per annum.
