FRIENDS OF THE WESTERN BUDDHIST ORDER (CORWEN)
We need more bathrooms for people who come on our retreats!
We’re planning to have a two-storey extension built, the same height as the existing bedroom block. On the ground floor there will be two showers and toilets and a utility room, and on the upper floor a multi-purpose space which could be used for groups, reviews, yoga or as an extra meditation room when needed. The extension will be built in blockwork and with timber cladding, preserving the rural look of Vajraloka.
We invite anybody who values Vajraloka and what it offers to contribute whatever they can towards this project. Everyone who comes here will benefit from the additional facilities, which will finally bring the retreat centre up to spec for the mixed retreats that make up the greater part of our yearly programme. We need to raise in excess of £80,000.
Any amount is gratefully received. We hope to see you at Vajraloka soon.
With much appreciation,
The Vajraloka team
A cluster of traditional Welsh stone farm buildings with attractive gardens, Vajraloka rests on a green hillside in a quiet and lovely valley. Below us runs the River Alwen, which flows from nearby Glyn Myfyr – in Welsh, ‘The Vale of Meditation’. Craggy hillsides, streams, woods and meadows surround us while, from a little higher up, the dramatic mountains of Snowdonia can be glimpsed.
Vajraloka has been offering Buddhist meditation retreats for over thirty years. Its location and the facilities that have been developed here greatly support the deepening of practice. Many comment on the atmosphere of the shrine room, evocative of the thousands of hours of meditation practice that have taken place here. Our accommodation is simple, warm and comfortable. We have a mix of single and shared bedrooms. In the dining room, our team and guest cooks serve up delicious and nutritious vegan food – we are delighted that Vajraloka is now a fully vegan retreat centre.
