ROUNDHAY PLAYGROUND APPEAL!  Help us upgrade the Lakeside playground with a fabulous, exciting, inclusive design for all children aged 6 mths - 7 years old.

Situated in a hugely popular area of the park, the playground has existed in its current format for many years used by individuals, schools, nurseries and community groups. The current selection of equipment is poor, limited and tired, providing insufficient choice for younger children at whom it is targeted, and currently has no provision for children with special needs.
But the playground has huge potential to be an excellent facility.  We will replace all the existing equipment with imaginative, fun, exciting and appropriately challenging pieces, encompassing climbing, sliding, spinning, scrambling, swinging, role play and learning and encourage children to interact and enjoy themselves – designed appropriately for this age bracket.  A new safe and colourful rubber surface will be installed, improving the look and feel of the playground, make it more accessible for all.

This project has been voluntarily instigated by a small sub-group of members of 'Friends of Roundhay Park', of which 4 are parents of young children themselves.  Our project was initiated in 2017 and since then we have engaged regularly with Leeds City Council, and completed a public consultation on the potential changes and improvements to the playground. This received an overwhelmingly positive response of over 1000 responses in total, demonstrating the strength of public feeling to the need for the playground improvements, and the level of interest from park users.
The Friends of Roundhay Park charity was formed in 1994 by local Leeds residents who decided to get involved with Roundhay Park, rather than just talk about it. Today with a membership of over 700 made up of a diverse mix of people, our aims are to actively protect, preserve and improve the facilities and natural beauty of Roundhay Park for the enjoyment of all its users.
