Charity description

Friends of JBG logo
The Friends support the beautiful Jerusalem Botanical Gardens.We fund particular projects including:
an International Horticultural Scholarship Programme;
the cross-cultural education of school-age children in Jerusalem;
a social action and environmental outreach programme and;
Working Holidays for volunteer amateur and professional gardeners to experience the JBG and Israel.

We encourage our scholars and working holiday volunteers, who come from all over the world, to learn about Israel's flora, conservation, biodiversity and to experience the relevance of a botanical garden in the 21st century.

We are proud of the achievements of the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens who are setting benchmarks for social and environmental involvement that gardens around the world are following.

As well as showcasing thousands of plants from all over the world, the JBG educates on the importance of conservation and protection of plant species and carries out scientific research on species which may be suitable for introduction to the country.
The ethos of the JBG is that plants, gardening and the peaceful environment of the Gardens is highly beneficial. 'Plants grow people' and there is a place for everyone.
Educational and social schemes include the disabled and disadvantaged and the JBG is one of the few institutions in the city able to bring together Jews, Moslems and Christians, both religious and secular in a safe and harmonious environment.
