Friends of IPASC
The Friends of IPASC support the “Institut Panafricain de Santé Communautaire” which was created through the work of Pat Nickson in 1992 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The goal of IPASC is to improve the health and well-being of people of all cultures and faiths through a community focused approach. IPASC is a Christian organisation recognized as an NGO in the DRC. IPASC trains community health workers to diploma and degree level so that they in turn can work in their communities. There are short courses for traditional (village) midwives, and refresher courses for health personnel. Training is often hands on through involvement in the operational programs of IPASC. Many IPASC graduates have established successful community programs of their own after their studies. Listening to grassroots communities to enable them to identify local solutions to health is an essential part of the IPASC approach. IPASC programs include HIV/AIDS, primary health care and safe motherhood.
