Charity description

Friends of Chernobyl's Children (Lancaster) logo
Friends of Chernobyl’s Children is a registered charity working throughout the UK providing recuperative holidays for children from needy families from the contaminated areas of Belarus affected by the radiation fallout of the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.

Each child comes for a
month each year on a five-year programme, ideally from the age of 7 until they
are 12.

The Lancaster group of Friends of Chernobyl’s
Children was formed in 2010 to bring a group of 7-11 year old socially
disadvantaged children from Belarus to Lancaster for a month. They receive lots
of loving care from local host families and take part in a schedule of fun
indoor and outdoor activities and trips. During their stay the children are
seen by a dentist and optician. All the money the Lancaster branch raises is
spent on airfares, visas and other necessary expenses to ensure the children
get the most out of their recuperative stay in the area.
