Food Matters
Charity description

Thank you for visiting our profile page on MyDonate. Food Matters is a national charity. We believe that healthy, sustainable, fair food should be available to everyone. We work with disadvantaged groups such a young people leaving care, young parents, people with poor mental health, offenders, the homeless and substance misusers. Our courses and workshops equip individuals with the skills and knowledge to make healthier food choices, helping support their physical and mental health.
Please donate to support these current projects run by Food Matters:
Kitchen Kick Start - Supports young people who are on the cusp of living independently, helping them to feel confident about cooking with healthy affordable meals from scratch. We work with a variety of people living insecurely - care leavers, young Mums and people facing homelessness. We run practical cookery sessions in supported housing and community kitchens.
Food Matters Inside & Out - Improving mental and physical health and learning life-skills are key factors in helping offenders find a life away from crime. Prisoners have poorer mental health than the general population and many have poor diets too. Evidence shows that improving what you eat can help improve your mood and behaviour, and in prisons better nutrition has reduced antisocial behaviour. We work with male and female offenders in prison and in the community - serving community orders or recently released from prison. We run courses about healthy eating, cooking, budgeting and social eating, to help offenders prepare for a better crime-free lifestyle.
