Essex Search & Rescue
Essex Search & Rescue is a life saving charity providing a team of volunteers on call 24 hours a day to assist in the search for high risk or vulnerable missing people. These include dementia sufferers, potential suicides, children, those with physical or mental health problems, and the elderly. In all of these cases, the likelihood of the person surviving is directly related to the time taken to locate them – so a rapid response is essential.
We operate principally in the county of Essex, but also in the surrounding counties as well. On average the team is called out once every 5 days.
Our 60 highly trained volunteers specialise in searching for missing people across all types of terrain and in all weathers, both day and night, on foot, with dogs, on mountain bikes, and in or around water. When called out to assist, they carry out a search of where the missing person was last seen. If the person is located, the teams will ensure they receive any immediate medical treatment necessary, and are helped to a place of safety so they can then be reunited with their family.
