Charity description

Edinburgh and Lothians Regional Equality Council logo
At Edinburgh and Lothians Regional Equality Council (ELREC) we run the Communities for Conservation project funded by the Climate Challenge Fund. This projects aims at inspiring members of Ethnic Minority communities to lower their carbon footprint by saving energy at home, cycling instead of driving and reducing waste.
We offer home energy visits enabling vulnerable households to receive tips for lowering their bills and consumption, help with reading meters, application for grants, eligibility check for home improvements such as free new boilers and cavity wall insulation, and much more. We offer cycling classes to help people learn how to ride and organise bike rides to unlock the joy of cycling. We support 5 community gardening groups in Edinburgh to teach and encourage people to grow their own food. We also organise community events to bring communities together and celebrate climate action.

We would appreciate your donations so we can continue our work and help more people to BE THE CHANGE THEY WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD and to become eco-friendly - improving well being and the environment for everyone.

Your donation would mean a lot to us and the communities we serve.

As part of the Communities for Conservation project, we have engaged with over 6,000 people from Ethinic Minority communities and conducted over 650 home energy visits. We have saved over 3,500 tonnes of CO2e and helped vulnerable community members to save over £350K. In November 2016 we were awarded CEMVO Scotland’s Environmental Impact Award and in November 2017 we were awarded the Climate Challenge Fund Award in the Energy category.
