Dundee Independent Advocacy Support

Dundee Independent Advocacy Support banner

Charity description

Dundee Independent Advocacy Support is looking to raise £10,000 from businesses in Dundee to support its development plans. The Charity urgently needs to upgrade its IT systems, PC’s and Telephones. DIAS currently has a system which, although effective, requires an extensive amount of time in administration.
To free up our advocate resources and allow them to spend more time engaging with our Advocate Partners we are installing new software and providing them with Smart phones and tablets. This costs money and we are therefore appealing for support from Dundee’s business community.

Independent advocacy offers people the opportunity to take control over their own lives by enabling them to exercise choice based on their own needs and wishes and to have their views heard and responded to.
An independent advocate helps people to find out information, explore options and decide for themselves what they want.  We never tell people what to do or allow our own opinions to get in the way of the support we provide.  We aim to increase confidence and assertiveness so that individuals feel empowered to speak up for themselves, leading to self-advocacy.
We provide independent advocacy for people in the City of Dundee who: have mental health issues are over the age of 65 have dementia have learning disabilities have physical disabilities and who are unable to support themselves have no one independent to offer support.
