Croydon Street and School Pastors

Charity description

Croydon Street and School Pastors logo
Croydon Street and School Pastors, (also affectionately known as “Croydon’s flip-flop brigade”), is a charity run by Christians who either live or work in the borough of Croydon. Croydon Street and School Pastors love and care for what happens in Croydon. We are Christian volunteers who engage with people on the streets of Croydon on a Friday night, and with school children on their way home during the week. We provide a listening ear and practical help to those we meet, caring for all and any in need, regardless of race, colour or religion.

Street Pastors engage with people coming out of pubs and clubs, diffuse tensions, help to arrange for people to get home safely, provide water, blankets or flip-flops (hence our nickname) to those in need and their presence is welcomed by Police, emergency services, shop-keepers and club bouncers. School Pastors aim to build relationships with young people making their way home from school, offering a listening ear and reducing the sense of intimidation that may be felt as large groups of teenagers move through the town. Street and School Pastors are motivated by their Christian faith seeking to provide practical help to their communities, but do not proactively evangelise or preach. All Croydon Street and School Pastors are fully trained and CRB checked.
