Cowal Elderly Befrienders SCIO

Charity description

Cowal Elderly Befrienders SCIO logo
Cowal Elderly Befrienders SCIO and Bute Elderly Befrienders provide a range of Befriending Services designed to improve quality of life, reduce isolation and loneliness and keep older people independent and active for as long as possible in the communities they helped create.

The Cowal and Bute areas of Argyll have very high elderly populations. Coupled with the rural geography of the regions, the result is that many older people are unable to socialise with others or access local services in the area.

We started life as a traditional Befriending project with volunteers visiting 1-2-1, but as the project grew we found that people needed different things. Our range of services developed from listening to clients and trying to meet the needs expressed and we continue to work in this way, constanly reviewing and evaluating the services we offer.

The project now has 6 full-time members of staff, 3 mini-buses and over 25 dedicated volunteers working together to provide more than 20,000 hours of Befriending services to 250 older people each year.
