Corbridge Youth Initiative

Charity description

Corbridge Youth Initiative logo
Corbridge Youth Initiative (CYI) was set up 17 years ago by Sandy Mearns to improve facilities for local young people in Corbridge. It is now a registered charity which provides activities, support and opportunities to young people from Corbridge and the surrounding area.

For more than 40 years youth services in Corbridge were delivered from a 'hut', latterly sited in the grounds of the Middle School. However the building had a limited life span and became unfit to use. CYI took action to provide a fit for purpose Youth Centre which is now located in the centre of the village. We have fully refurbished the premises into a 1st class facility for young people and have 10 years secure tenure.

We have a dedicated team of Youth Workers led by Gillian Wood, working with up to 70 young people per week at the new Youth Centre. Our sessions include: Seniors, Juniors, Girls Group, Job Club, Health Drop-in and an Allotment Group. We also run Outreach Programmes and Community Play Schemes during the school holidays. Our funding aim is to support and sustain quality youth work in the village during the next 10 years and beyond.
