Charity description

CANCER UNITED logo
Cancer United is a local support group for all those in the community whose lives have been affected by cancer.
As a local cancer support charity, we offer integrated support to a diverse range of cancer patients to get their life back on track after diagnosis, treatment and recovery. The group is not cancer specific rather catering for all cancers

Cancer United is not cancer specific rather catering for all cancer types uniting people by one life changing experience. Peer to peer interaction and taking part in a variety of social activities increase the chances of survival or surviving longer as people aren't isolated and are enjoying things which are normal.
As well as the pastoral benefits Cancer United has a physical activity initiative called ‘CU Fitter’ offering a range of cancer specific exercise for cancer patients at all stages of their cancer journey.
Cancer patients can be intimidated by ‘normal’ gyms, environments which can feel hostile to their degree of illness, incapacity or disfigurement. ‘CU Fitter’, is a bespoke approach to exercise engagement, as a unique strategy within cancer services and our aim is for it to become national.
CU Fitter gym was launched in October 2015 and offers a self-referral exercise programme for people in cancer recovery. Research is now proving that exercise is vital for cancer recovery and prevention of a recurrence and our mission is to roll out the CU Fitter exercise model Nationwide
