The primary objectives of the charity are to protect and provide support to ensure the continuing success of ospreys nesting in the Glaslyn Valley, north-west Wales and to introduce local inhabitants and visitors to the wealth of other wildlife that is to be found in the area. It aims to encourage and help schoolchildren and visitors to the centre to discover and learn about the wide variety of different plant and animal species that can be seen at and from the Visitor Centre and, in doing so, encourage sustainable tourism to the Glaslyn Valley and its environs. The Glaslyn osprey nest is the longest established breeding territory in Wales having been continuously occupied  since 2004. Its success has attracted tens of thousands of visitors, many of whom are repeat visitors who have come to identify with the projects and its aims.

When the RSPB's stewardship of the Glaslyn ospreys came to an end in 2013 a group of interested wildlife enthusiasts agreed to take over the reins and run the project at a local level. Consequently in 2013 Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn Wildlife (BGGW) was set up as a Community Interest Company. In 2017 we converted to a Charity, with the aim of continuing the work of protecting breeding ospreys in the Glaslyn Valley, whilst at the same time highlighting the wealth of other wildlife in the region.
In a very short time a great deal has been achieved and the Charity continues to grow.
In 2014 work began on the construction of our new visitor centre at Pont Croesor. This was completed and the centre was opened by Iolo Williams on 31st July 2015. This centre enables us to engage effectively with local communities, businesses and schools whilst continuing to promote the messages of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn Wildlife is a bilingual Charity which recognises the rich Welsh Heritage of the Glaslyn Valley and its environs.
