Building Futures East

Charity description

Building Futures East logo
Building Futures East is community regeneration organisation, social enterprise & registered charity. It works in the 20% most disadvantaged communities north and south of Tyne. It takes a "people and place" based approach to its work, improving the quality of life and opportunity for individuals but also improving the quality of the environment in which people live.

We do 4 main things:
  • Provide a range of vocational skills training/capacity building/employability programmes to get people back into learning and work. It works with employers to do this.
  • Run a social business that trains young people in horticulture and environmental maintenance, providing employment, apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships that target the most disadvantaged, provides sustainable employment & delivers a commercial service locally and regionally to businesses and social housing agents. Any profit goes back into more training opportunities.
  • Works directly with local communities to increase social capital through social action & help them become more socially and economically resilient by addressing with them a range of local issues and finding positive, intelligent solutions.
  • Works to influence local policy decisions with a range of local stakeholders including the public and private sector, to build relationships and promote social cohesion.
