Bereavement Care volunteers provide support at a difficult time; giving bereaved children or adults an opportunity to explore their loss and helping them to get back on track, rather than attempting to suppress their grief. Bereavement Care was established in 1981 as ‘Harrow Churches Bereavement Visiting Scheme’. It became an independent charity, Harrow Bereavement Care (HBC), in June 2000 to demonstrate its commitment to delivering bereavement care to any person in the local community. In 2014, the Charitable Incorporated Organisation, Bereavement Care, was established which reflects the wider geographical area now served by the charity. The support is provided free of charge to all, regardless of their age, gender, faith, religious, ethnic or cultural background and socio-economic status.
The organisation also provides initial and on-going training, both for its volunteers and others who wish to support those who have been bereaved.
