Beechtree Steiner Initiative
We offer a nurturing, creative and natural environment in which we have time for the children to be in nature, to tell stories, to play and to develop at their own pace supported and surrounded by the rhythm of the day, the week and the seasons.
We currently run 2 Kindergartens for children over the age of 3 plus daily indoor and outdoor Parent & Child Groups for children under the age of 3 and their carers.
Our building is due to be demolished later this year. We have struggled to find a suitable new location for our current provision but have been lucky enough to find somewhere that can accommodate what we have now and enable us to grow towards our long term aim of having a school.
Historically, families from our Leeds community have had to move or commute to York in order to continue with Steiner education but now we are in the position to start a Class One for children aged 6-7 which will eventually grow into a school for children up to age 14.
Demand for primary-aged education in Leeds is at the highest it's been in over 15 years: “As well as the rising birth rate, Leeds has become such an attractive proposition to families and businesses that we are now faced with an unprecedented population increase and a challenge to create enough, quality school places to meet this demand." (Councillor Lucinda Yeadon - Leeds City Council)
We are seeking funding of £45,000 by the end of 2017 to:
- Move the existing 2 kindergartens and 8 parent & child groups to new premises
- Convert the new premises to meet the needs of the children and curriculum
- Start a third kindergarten and class one
