Battle of Britain Memorial Trust

Charity description

A stunning clifftop memorial to the men who fought the Battle of Britain and kept this island free from invasion in 1940.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Trust CIO preserves the memory of the aircrew who defended this country against the Luftwaffe in 1940 and cares for the National Memorial to the Few.

This evocative clifftop memorial at Capel-le-Ferne is situated in the area known as Hellfire Corner, over which much of the fighting took place in 1940.

The charity is dedicated to the memory of the men Churchill referred to as 'the Few' and is determined to ensure future generations know how vital their contribution was to the survival of the free world.

In 2015 the Trust unveiled a new visitor centre, The Wing, to help young and old understand what these men - fewer than 3000 of them - went through in what was perhaps the most important battle fought by this country in the 20th century.

The Wing uses high tech audiovisual effects to tell the story of the Battle of Britain.

Please help make sure the bravery and sacrifice of these heroes is remembered for all time by contributing to the ongoing work of the Trust, which receives no public funding and needs £150,000 a year to run the site.
