Bampton Classical Opera

Charity description

Bampton Classical Opera logo
Relaxed, accessible and inspirational opera; glorious revivals of unjustly forgotten works.

Bampton Classical Opera is a small organisation with exciting but realistic ambitions.

We have a national reputation for our revivals of neglected 18th-century operas and have given a number of UK premieres; our repertory includes significant works by Arne, Benda, Cimarosa,Gazzaniga, Gluck, Haydn, Martín y Soler, Mozart, Paer, Paisiello, Salieri and Storace.

We have a policy of supporting young singers and players and are recognised as providing a valuable and supportive performing experience.

Our staged works are almost always sung in English, often to our own lively translations, and we are committed to relaxed and informal opera at affordable prices.

Our regular venues are two charming garden settings (Bampton, Oxfordshire and Westonbirt, Gloucestershire), as well as London’s renowned St John’s Smith Square. We have performed by invitation at leading festivals including those at Buxton and Cheltenham, as well as at London’s Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room.
