Charity description

APRS logo
The Association for the Protection of Rural Scotland is the charity which promotes the care of all of Scotland's rural landscapes.

Scotland’s landscapes are of a richness, diversity and distinctiveness unparalleled in Europe. Their beauty derives partly from nature, partly from the work of people over generations. Yet these precious rural landscapes are under constant threat from inappropriate development, including housing sprawl, opencast mines, huge wind turbines and lines of electricity pylons. APRS is the only body which campaigns for all of Scotland’s rural landscapes, not just the wild or high places. At national level we campaign for better landscape policies; at local level we help people get involved in enhancing the landscapes which form the settings for their daily lives.
Three things we are campaigning for right now are:

- more National Parks for Scotland

- better protection for Scotland's Green Belts

- a deposit return system for drinks containers, to reduce litter and boost recycling

Charity No: SC016139
