Abbeyfield Society

Charity description

Abbeyfield Society logo
The Abbeyfield mission is to enhance the quality of life for older people. We are a leading charity which provides housing, care and support to older people at various stages of later life.

We were established in 1956 by Richard Carr-Gomm to provide companionship and support to isolated older people. Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide the support that every person needs to feel at home and to ensure that their later years are happy years.

Making time for older people and helping make later life a happy life is at the heart of everything we do. With over 500 homes across the UK, we  reach out to socially isolated older people in all the local communities we are a part of.

Abbeyfield encourages older people to remain as independent as possible, whatever their physical or mental frailty.  Our homes, including innovative dementia care centres, are where each person is treated with dignity and respect.

We look after the mind, body and soul and empower older people to have a say in how they live their life.

Donations are vital to continue this work - to build and develop more homes and services for our ageing population and to be there for those who'll need us in the future.
