Thank you for visiting our profile page on My Donate.ABANA - furthering Education in Rwanda.

The charity ABANA (CHILDREN) was set up at the end of 2010, after
I had spent a year in Rwanda, working as a volunteer teacher of English in a
rural secondary school

ABANA selects students who would otherwise be unable to
access Secondary Education and sponsors them through school and on to Further Education.

We are a small charity, up to now we are helping around 12
students and with your help, we could sponsor many more.

Please donate to support our cause.

I saw at close hand the terrible poverty that is normal for
most Rwandans. We can’t even begin to imagine it unless we see it for
ourselves. They have nothing and yet
they value Education above anything and are desperate to go to school and see
it as the only way to break out of this desperate cycle of poverty.

In Rwanda, all secondary schools are boarding schools and it
costs the equivalent of £50 per term for a child to attend, a massive sum for a
Rwandan to find. As families are large
(average 7 children) many parents never find the money to send a child to
school, or they may have been able to pay for one or two terms only.
